About Me:

Allison “Ali” Topaum

Professional All Breed Dog Groomer

30 years experience

Hi everyone! I’ve been grooming for 30 years this June 2024, I am originally from Gresham/Portland Area. I started grooming at the age of 14 at a Salon called Candie’s Canine Clippers, Owned by Candi Hoëmberg of Shooting Star Rottweilers in Damascus, Oregon. Hence the name of my first Salon, I had to pay tribute to her!

Wendy Couch of C&C Quarter Horses (back in the mid 90s) taught me how to have fun while grooming, and “trust the process” and not take it too seriously, but with a loving heart, she was an amazing mentor through horsemanship and dog grooming.

I eventually moved to Milwaukie, Oregon working with an amazing master groomer, Cheryl Sargent of Cheryl’s Canine Styling, who helped me hone my skills back in 2004, my first hand shearing experiences were learning to perfect Bichon Frise heads and bodies. That was Cheryl’s specialty, she also taught me how to properly dematt and fluff dry a coat until you could run throughout the coat with a fine tooth comb, with no snags at all. (It was daunting, I remember, getting annoyed sometimes with my self because she reminded me that’s why people pay so much see you have to do a professional detailed job. I also learned that skill from her. She truly taught me how to be a professional and take pride in my work. I also learned with her how to move in a quick, and yet efficient manner. I honestly can’t thank Cheryl enough for what she has taught me, it might’ve been a short little bit of time for her but I am forever grateful to this day! I think about her every time I groom a Bichon Frise!

I also worked for Wash N Roll Mobile Pet Grooming in the Portland Metro and surrounding areas, like Lake Oswego, West Linn, Tigard, & SW Portland. Many prestigious neighborhoods and some famous clients! In fact I groomed Brian Grant of the Portland Trailblazers American Bulldog, Brutus every Friday for almost 3 years. As well as LeMarcus Aldridge’s (another Trailblazer) Swiss Mountain Dog and his wife’s Long haired Dachshund on a two week basis. I was pregnant by the year 2008 and gave birth to my son in 2009, so I slowed down with grooming, I then became a stay at home mom, thanks to my husband who owned his own Roofing Company, so I was able to raise our boy at home. But grooming took a back burner. I still continued to groom throughout the years. Once my son was old enough I was able to get back out into the grooming world which I love so much!

Grooming to me is like painting, or a hobby. It is something I truly enjoy and I don’t look at it as a chore, being off work for so long has made me appreciate grooming dogs on a whole new level. And I am grateful to be able to enjoy something that connects me to one of the greatest creatures on earth, and that is dogs!

We lived in Astoria for a few years and moved to Southern Oregon in 2021. Before opening my salon, I was grooming in West Medford with Sheila Jeffries, McKenna Jeffries and Deborah Green of House of Paws. And another salon called Pretty Pawz in Gold Hill owned by Shannon Cress Compher. They are extremely wonderful women and exceptional groomers.

I opened my own salon in Shady Cove, but it wasn’t surviving Shady Cove. I had to close my doors and relocate to Eagle Point inside the Red Dog Pet Supply. It’s been a wonderful transition and I’m able to work and help the Eagle Point community.
